Welcome to Café de Lenguas & Cultura Project (CLC)!
Café de Lenguas and Cultura is a non-profit organization in Puerto Lopez, a quiet fishing village in Manabí, Ecuador. At a beautiful language school on the beach, the café is a place for local Spanish speakers and visiting English speakers to meet and exchange culture and language in a relaxed atmosphere. Here at Café de Lenguas, people of all different ages, backgrounds, and corners of the world can meet and learn from one another, facilitating understanding between contrasting cultures that may not have been possible otherwise.
In addition, Café de Lenguas works within the community of Puerto Lopez teaching English to students both at Clara Luna Language School and at the public schools. The education system in Puerto Lopez needs help; most of the children here come from very poor families, but they don’t receive the kind of education they need to help them truly succeed. Café de Lenguas y Cultura is working hard in tandem with Clara Luna Language School to put volunteers with more fortunate educational backgrounds teaching English to the local children and adults, a skill that will help them improve their situations and the quality of their lives.
Volunteers working with us have the opportunity to discover hidden talents, learn new skills, and ultimately make a positive impact on the lives of local Ecuadorians and visitors alike. Not only are they able to work at the language exchange facilitating understanding between cultures, but they also have the opportunity to teach English to local students that will benefit enormously from their help, ideas, and expertise. Volunteers make close connections with the community here in Puerto Lopez, and ultimately leave with a sense of achievement, a new family, and a new outlook on life.
